Touch of Understanding
A Touch of Understanding is a great program supported by our school's PTA. Each year, we have the ATOU come to our school. We spend four hours learning about many kinds of disabilities and then the kids have the opportunity to do hands-on activities which make them realize how challenging things can be for people with those disabilities. For example, kids use white canes, wheel chairs, and touch prosthetic body parts, as well as complete Braille activities and listen to what someone with autism may hear during a regular visit to a restaurant. It is always one of the best days of the school year and the kids never forget it!
